Georgia Medical Cannabis Card: The Complete 2026 Guide

If you're a Georgia resident wondering whether medical cannabis is an option for you, this guide covers the whole picture: who qualifies, what it costs, how the process works, and where to start.

What Is the Georgia Medical Cannabis Card?

Georgia's Medical Cannabis Patient Registry — run by the Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH) — allows registered patients with qualifying conditions to legally possess up to 12,000 milligrams of THC in state-approved products. Your card is proof of registration. It's valid for five years, with an annual physician certification required to keep it active.

The program was significantly expanded on July 1, 2026, when SB 220 (the Putting Georgia's Patients First Act) took effect.

Who Qualifies?

You must be a Georgia resident with at least one of the state's 19 qualifying conditions. These include cancer, seizure disorders, Crohn's disease, PTSD, Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, intractable pain, severe autism, Alzheimer's disease, ALS, sickle cell disease, and others.

Not sure whether your condition fits? That's exactly what the free consultation is for — a physician reviews your history and gives you a straight answer.

How to Get Your Card: 4 Steps

Step 1: Free consultation. Meet one-on-one with a licensed Georgia physician for 15 minutes. No pressure, no judgment — just an honest review of your medical history and whether you qualify under Georgia law.

Step 2: Physician certification. If you qualify, the physician completes Georgia's Physician Certification and files it with the Medical Cannabis Patient Registry. This is the only legal pathway — physician certification is required.

Step 3: State registration. DPH verifies your certification and emails you a link to pay the state card fee ($30 plus a $3.75 portal fee).

Step 4: Receive your card. Your card ships by UPS (signature required) in about 10 business days. Then you can shop at any licensed Georgia dispensary or participating pharmacy.

How Much Does It Cost?

The physician certification is $149.99 (or $124.99 with promo code PLANTS25). The initial 15-minute consultation is free. The state charges a separate $30 card fee plus $3.75 portal fee, paid directly to DPH. Health insurance does not cover the card.

Where Can You Shop?

Registered patients can purchase at any of Georgia's licensed dispensaries — including True Bliss in Atlanta — or at independent pharmacies licensed by the Georgia Board of Pharmacy to dispense low-THC products.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to visit in person? Currently, yes. Consultations happen in person at the Buckhead flagship or True Bliss Dispensary in Atlanta, Monday–Friday, 12–3 PM. Online consultations are coming soon.

What should I bring? A clear photo of the front and back of your Georgia driver's license or state ID, for residency verification.

What if I don't qualify? The physician will tell you honestly. The consultation is a conversation, not a sales pitch — if cannabis isn't right for you, you'll hear that too.

How long does the whole process take? Most patients go from consultation to card-in-hand within a few weeks.
