How Much Does a Georgia Med Card Cost? (Full 2026 Breakdown)

One of the first questions every patient asks: what does this actually cost? Here's every dollar, with no surprises.

The Short Answer

ItemCost
Initial 15-minute consultationFree
Physician certification$149.99 ($124.99 with code PLANTS25)
Georgia state card fee$30.00
DPH portal fee$3.75
Total out of pocket$183.74 ($158.74 with PLANTS25)

What's Free

The initial 15-minute consultation costs nothing. You meet one-on-one with a licensed Georgia physician, review your medical history, and get an honest answer about whether you qualify. No charge, no obligation.

The Physician Certification: $149.99

If you qualify, the physician completes Georgia's Physician Certification and files it with the Medical Cannabis Patient Registry. This is the legal core of the whole process — physician certification is the only way to access the program.

Use promo code PLANTS25 for $25 off, bringing it to $124.99. You only pay after the physician confirms you qualify.

The State Fees: $33.75

Once DPH verifies your certification, they email you a payment link. The card itself is $30, plus a $3.75 portal fee. This goes directly to the Georgia Department of Public Health — not to the physician.

What Insurance Doesn't Cover

Health insurance does not cover the medical cannabis card, the certification, or cannabis products. Everything is out of pocket.

What About Renewal?

Your card is valid for five years. Georgia requires an annual physician certification to keep it active — budget for the certification each year.

Is It Worth It?

Only you can answer that. But consider what the card buys: legal access to lab-tested products at licensed dispensaries, up to 12,000 mg of THC possession protection, and five years of coverage for under $200 all-in. For patients who qualify, the math usually works.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I pay if I don't qualify? No. The consultation is free, and the certification fee is only charged after the physician confirms you qualify.

Are there hidden fees? No. The table above is the complete picture.

Can I use HSA/FSA funds? Check with your plan administrator — rules vary, and cannabis-related expenses are often excluded.
